Heather Starr has been practicing yoga for over a decade, rolling out her mat in yoga studios all over the globe. Founder and Creator of Starr Light Yoga as well as Founder and Director of the South West Yoga Fest, Heather was first introduced to Yoga in 2007 in Montreal, Canada, her home and native land. After achieving a diverse educational background with degrees in Social Science, Political Science and Public Relations Management, Heather broke away from the 9-5 office job life, and moved to the breathtaking islands of the Bahamas. She began to practice yoga regularly under Elaine Kerry, and studied the Foundations of Yoga and decided to venture off and complete her 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training in Costa Rica with the Marianne Wells Yoga School in 2009.
After completing her training in Costa Rica, Heather headed for a new life in Australia. Following some extensive travelling around the lucky country, with her Aussie husband, and bringing two beautiful daughters into the world, Heather finally submitted her Yoga Teacher Training Test and received her certification in 2013. In order to continue her evolution of understanding and help compliment our Yang lifestyles and vigorous Vinyasa practices, Heather completed her level 1 Healing Art of Yin Yoga Teacher Training in July 2018 and has since grown a huge passion for Yin Yoga, and the anatomy and philosophy behind the practice. With her passion for Yin growing, Heather moved forward and has recently completed level 2 Healing Art of Yin Yoga Teacher Training in April 2019. Both trainings were with Danielle Mercer at the Spanda School in Fremantle. Heather is currently registered to complete her SUP Yoga Certification in November 2019.
Heather's style has evolved over the years and blends Hatha with Vinyasa and Yin in many of her classes. Her classes combine the Asanas (physical postures), Meditation and Pranayama (breath work). Heather aims to bring peace, light, and energy into her students practice, and provide a complete balance for the mind, body and soul for yogis of all ages. Heather is also a Wellness Advocate for DoTerra Essential oils and shares the oils in class to enhance the practice with her students.
Currently Heather is teaching private lessons at Yallingup Lodge, and with the Holistic Hen at the Regency Beach Club, as well as group classes at Dunsborough Gym, well as Kids Yoga and Staff Yoga at Our Lady of the Cape Primary School in Dunsborough, Cape Naturaliste College and Busselton Senior High School. Heather will be offering Floating SUP Yoga classes at Meelup Beach starting December 2019, and is offering international yoga retreats in Indonesia and Bahamas.
