What is Sound Therapy?
The vibrational effects of Sound Massage on one’s body and mind is an incredible inner journey experience. Since, our body is predominately made of fluids, and water reacts in patterns to a vibration, the vibrations from the signing bowls impact our internal tissues. Fluids have a close relationship to our nervous system’s health on a cellular level. During your Sound session, after a quick holistic health assessment, Peter Hess singing bowls are placed on different parts of the body while being chimed. Other bowls and instruments might also be used surrounding the body to create varying notes and vibrations. Clients are laying on a massage table, fully clothed, during the session. The Vibrations, similar to acupuncture needles, are amazingly efficient to help vital energy flow freely. In the same way the sound frequency and vibration, allows you to disconnect from worry and experience being in the present moment. Results can vary from a deep sense of relaxation, to relief from physical and/or emotional pain, a sensation of lightness as the body lets go of past emotional and physical issues.
How does it work?
During our waking state, the normal frequency of our brain waves is that of Beta. Sound tools entrain the brain to move into the deeper Alpha and Theta brain wave frequencies. These are the frequencies that induce deep meditative and peaceful states, clarity of mind and intuition. Modern medicine can now measure and thus confirm the practice of sound as a means to promote healing. Thus, sound is now often viewed as a type of energy medicine that creates the sacred space in which people can heal from stress disorders, pain, depression, the emotional roller coaster and more. Ancient instruments, including Tibetan singing bowls are ‘struck and sung’ in specific rhythmic patterns to create vibrational sound harmonics at the frequency of “AUM” or “OM”. This sound frequency known as that of Perfection impacts the sympathetic nervous system as your brain waves synchronise to the vibrations of the bowls. The harmonic vibrations engage the relaxation reflex and slow down the respiratory, brain and heart rate and disrupt the pain reflex creating a deep sense of well-being.
